- "In life, you lives on just one shelf" (page 33). It's a idiom because it is saying that humans or people only live on one side.
- "He hums the way wind blow through wheat..." (Page 20). -Metaphor, it is comparing Blott's voice to the wind.
Overall, in the past pages, it explains more about what goes on around or in the cemetery. So far, the novel tells me that when you are dead, you are able to see your bad points in your past life. Not only that, but you have to gain your way into a new life. Finch so far is getting along with more people as the book continues.
